Wow, The Cymbals That Mike Portnoy Promised For The Viral Indonesian Drummer With His Homemade Drum Kit Have Arrived
JAKARTA - Deden Noy, a YouTuber from Bengkulu who went viral for playing drums from gallons, buckets, and cans finally received a shipment of cymbals promised by Mike Portnoy, a former Dream Theater drummer.
Deden Noy's cover of Dream Theater's Metropolis - Part I: The Miracle and the Sleeper, using his 'homemade kit' attracted Mike Portnoy's praise.
In a post on his social media Wednesday, March 17, Portnoy - who left Dream Theater in September 2010 - revealed he received hundreds or even thousands of messages and tags from around the world wanting him to see Deden Noy's drumming.
"Over the last few weeks, I received HUNDREDS (maybe even thousands?) messages, tags, and more from people all over the world sending (Youtube) links @dedennoy playing many of my songs using homemade drums", Portnoy wrote.
In addition to giving praise, Portnoy promised to reward Deden Noy with Tama drums and Sabian cymbals.

"His talent is amazing and I'm trying to give him a new kit and cymbal with amazing support from @officialtamadrums and @sabiancymbals_official", promised the musician who owns many of these music projects.

Now, Portnoy is fulfilling that promise. In a recent post on his social media, the drummer who had been to Indonesia with PSMS music project (Portnoy, Sheehan, McAlpine, Sherinian) in 2012 reported that Sabian cymbals that he promised had been received by Deden Noy.
"Now most of you may have seen an incredible viral video of an Indonesian drummer @dedennoy did a drum cover on his homemade equipment. (Here he plays The Dance Of Eternity)", Portnoy wrote.
"Through the support of @officialtamadrums & @sabiancymbals, I have arranged to give him a new cymbal kit & set... Well, I was just told that the cymbal set had arrived and they sent me these photos and videos", the drummer continued.
Portnoy said he was happy to do this for Deden Noy and shared his drumming talents with talented and dedicated young drummers.
"His spirit is inspiring. I'll report back when the drums arrive", Portnoy said.
