Geological ESDM Calls The Spread Of Hot Clouds Mount Lewotobi Still Hazards Flights In NTT

The distribution of hot clouds from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi is still considered dangerous for the safety of flight activities so that a number of airports in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have not been recommended to operate.

Head of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Muhammad Wafid said, it was recorded that since 01.25 WITA this morning until this afternoon there were at least four follow-up eruptions with a duration of 1,770 seconds.

Reports received from the Volcanology team of the Geological Agency in East Flores found a column height of ash ranging from one kilometer to more than five kilometers into the air from the top of Mount Lewotobi Laki.

"Then the thick ash distribution headed north to the northwest. And it caused another closure of the airports from Maumere, Ende, Kupang and so on," he said when met in Jakarta, Friday, November 8, was confiscated by Antara.

A team of volcanologists from the Geological Agency indicated that air flights in NTT and its surroundings will rest for a long time if they look at the characteristics of Mount Lewotobi Laki's volcanic activity, which is now outside of its normal standards or overscales.

Wafid explained that one of these was seen from the existence of strombolian changes in the explosive direction from January to October, then the seismic tremor activity is still ongoing continuously to this day.

"Well, these changes are a challenge for us to provide more detailed recommendations later to the public. Meanwhile, what needs to be conveyed," he said.
