BMKG Records 39 Susulant Rivers After The M 5.0 Bandung Earthquake

JAKARTA - The Bandung Station Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 39 aftershocks after the 5.0 magnitude (M) earthquake in Bandung Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, September 18.

"As many as 39 aftershocks until 11.00 WIB [Tuesday 1 September], the public remains vigilant about this aftershock," said Head of the Bandung BMKG Geophysics Station Teguh Rahayu in Bandung, Tuesday, September 1, as reported by Antara.

Teguh revealed that aftershocks that occurred had a magnitude that continued to shrink. He reminded that the potential for aftershocks could still occur in the future.

"Aftershocks have collapsed and the duration of time is also getting longer. However, the potential for aftershocks can still occur," he said.

Although not dangerous, he reminded people to avoid being in or around houses that are not livable, because of the potential danger of aftershocks.

He appealed to people who want to return home after leaving the evacuation to first check the condition of the building, especially in the main structure section.

Furthermore, Teguh said that aftershocks with the greatest shock strength of 3.5 magnitudes and the smallest of 1.2 magnitudes, his party appealed to residents to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.
