This Year's Homecoming Is Banned, Joint Leave Only For One Day

JAKARTA - The government officially bans Eid homecoming this year. In addition, the Eid al-Fitr joint leave was also shortened to just one day.

This decision was taken in a coordination meeting between a number of ministries and agencies.

"There is still one day of leave with Idulitri, but no homecoming activities are allowed," said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of Indonesia (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy in a virtual press conference, Friday, March 26.

That way, collective leave only applies on May 12, 2021, which falls on a Wednesday. Then, the first and second day of Eid al-Fitr falls on the 13th and 14th, Thursday and Friday.

Muhadjir said the ban on going home which was decided to apply to all State Civil Apparatus, National Army, National Police, State-Owned employees, private employees, independent workers, and also the entire community. Then, this ban on homecoming will start from May 6 to May 17, 2021.

"On that day and date, people are advised not to carry out movements or activities outside the region, unless it is really urgent and necessary," said Muhadjir.

In this homecoming ban, the COVID-19 vaccination program continues. In addition, the provision of social assistance will be adjusted according to the time and the provision of special assistance in Jabodetabek as last year will be determined later.

"The mechanism for the movement of people and goods during the Idul Fitri holiday will be regulated by the relevant ministries and institutions," said Muhadjir.

"Religious activities to welcome Ramadan and Eid will be regulated by the Ministry of Religion in consultation with the MUI and existing religious organizations," he continued.
