The First Stage Of German Startup Rocket Explodes During Trial

JAKARTA Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA), a German start-up NewSpace company, failed to conduct a static test-fire in the first stage of its rocket. The first phase was destroyed and exploded while being tested. This failure occurred on Monday, August 19 at SaxaVord Spaceport, the launch site of RFA. The company confirmed that testing failed to be carried out due to an unknown problem. The first stage of the rocket was completely destroyed in this incident. The trial video shared by the BBC showed an explosion emanating from one of the Helix engines at the bottom of the rocket stage. In no time, the fire burst out of the side and began to spread throughout the first stage of the rocket. After that, the rocket exploded. RFA said that it managed to save the launch pad and control the situation so no one was injured. Now, RFA will conduct an investigation to find out the cause of the accident.

"No one was injured in the process. The launch runway has been rescued and secured, the situation is under control, and all danger has been mitigated," RFA said via its social media. "We will take the time to analyze and assess the situation." During the investigation, RFA will work closely with SaxaVord Spaceport and other authorities. They will collect all data and information related to the failure of the first phase of static firing test. "We are re-developing with emphasis on real testing. This is part of our philosophy and we are aware of the higher risk inherent in this approach. Our goal is to return to operation regularly as soon as possible," RFA said.
