India Dilanda Wave Protests Over The Death Of An Internship Doctor Raped In Hospital

The demonstration involved thousands of women taking place at a number of points in India last night local time. They called for strict punishment for the death of a female intern who was raped at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital India.

Citing Reuters on Thursday, August 15, the protest was accompanied by a rally holding candles and posters of a protest call that read "rebut tonight".

Female demonstrators lined up in a number of cities in India, including Kolkata in eastern India, where an intern was raped and killed last week.

This protest was not long after the actions of fellow medical officers demanded better work conditions and safer in the aftermath of the rape case. Medical officers, including young doctors, went on strike indefinitely.

As a result, many government hospitals in Indian cities stopped all services except emergency units earlier this week.

A 31-year-old young doctor who underwent an internship or internship was found dead at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata last Friday.

Police said she had been raped and murdered. A police volunteer was later arrested in connection with the crime.

"As a society, we must think about the atrocities committed against our mothers, daughters and sisters. There is anger against this in this country. I can feel this anger," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a speech to the people on India's 78th Independence Day on Thursday, August 15.
