Seriously! Apple Intelligence Wrongly Marks Phishing Emails As Priority
JAKARTA - Apple Intelligence, the latest feature in iOS 18.1 which is in the developer's beta version, appears to be experiencing serious problems in distinguishing phishing emails from legitimate emails. This feature, which should help users by summarizing emails and determining their interests quickly, instead marks phishing emails as a priority.
According to some Reddit users, the AI filter in the Mail app does not only fail to identify phishing emails but instead considers them important emails. This problem arises because this technology only checks text in emails and ignores sender addresses and other relevant signals.
This problem has been around for a long time in the Apple Mail, where automatic detection of junk email is often ineffective. However, with the presence of Apple Intelligence, this problem got worse because phishing emails not only remain in the inbox but are also marked as a priority. As a result, suspicious users may soon take action and fall victim to fraud.

The Apple Intelligence feature is planned to be launched publicly in October, but if this issue is not fixed before the release of iOS 18.1, the impact could be very detrimental.
Apple Mail already has the ability to identify verified email addresses from certain companies. It might be better if Apple integrates these factors into its AI filter to distinguish truly important emails from fraudulent attempts.
Apple must immediately address this shortfall so that iPhone users are not negatively affected by email phishing detection errors.
