South Korean Police Will Be Equipped With Anti-Trick Vests To Neck Protection With The Latest Technology
JAKARTA - South Korean authorities will improve the safety of their police officers when the number of officers injured by criminal suspects has increased in the country.
A man carrying a saw injured three police officers in downtown Gwangju some time ago, reminding the public of the dangers they face every day.
To better protect the first respondent, the National Policy Agency (NPA) will start providing lighter and more durable protective equipment next month, the agency said in May.
The next generation of safety equipment includes anti-stick vests, jackets, neck shields, and shields.
"Police officers have faced increased risks to their safety in recent years amid rising numbers of unusual crimes," said NPA Commissioner General Yoon Hee-keun as quoted by The Korea Times on July 10.
"Further generation protective equipment will help them respond more proactively and safely," he said.
Later, these safety equipment will be distributed to police officers in the criminal department and 16 other departments.
As an illustration, many police officers show safety equipment is currently too heavy and stiff, which hinders their body movements while on duty.
Meanwhile, the new vest that will be given is 30 percent lighter and much more flexible, as well as providing better protection for the upper body.
