Vice President Asks KPU To Fix Yourself To Ensure The Smooth Running Of The 2024 Pilkada

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked the General Elections Commission (KPU) to strengthen and fix the agency in order to ensure the smooth running of the Pilkada simultaneously in November.

"I think the KPU is strengthened and the things that are still lacking are corrected, so that the KPU is equipped, strengthened," said the Vice President as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 9.

Vice President Ma'ruf's statement was in response to the negligence of the KPU as an institution that organizes the Pilkada, as a result of the sanctions imposed by the Election Organizers Honorary Council (DKPP) in the form of permanent dismissal for the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari on suspicion of immoral acts.

The vice president also considered the addition of KPU members after the dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari from his position as Chairman of the KPU. According to the Vice President, holding simultaneous regional elections is the most important thing.

"If necessary, for example, there is one leaving, plus but with what I think is holding the Pilkada is more important," said the Vice President.

According to the Vice President, the KPU is an agency that works on a team, not on an individual basis, so when an individual from the agency gets into a case, it doesn't make the entire institution guilty.

Moreover, Pilkada is a national agenda, so it is impossible to form a new institution to organize regional elections simultaneously.

"Because the Pilkada problem has become a national agenda and it is impossible to form a new KPU," said the Vice President.

On the previous occasion, the Vice President assessed that the case of alleged immoral acts proven by Hasyim Asy'ari was an important lesson to hold morality and integrity.

The Vice President assessed that the alleged actions taken by Hasyim Asy'ari were important lessons for all parties, especially those holding power so that these immoral acts would not occur again in other institutions.

Hasyim Asy'ari was reported to have committed an alleged immoral act based on a CAT complaint, a woman member of the Foreign Election Committee (PPLN) of The Hague, Netherlands, who admitted that she was forced to have sexual relations with her.

The immoral act was carried out at a hotel where Hasyim stayed in The Hague, in October 2023, when Hasyim was in the Dutch capital regarding election activities.
