Partnering With The Vietnamese Government, Samsung Electronics Encourages The Use Of Renewable Energy

JAKARTA Samsung Electronics Vietnam supports the Direct Electricity Purchase Agreement (DPPA) system issued by the local government on July 3. This system regulates the purchase of renewable energy. With this regulation, companies can purchase renewable energy from private producers without requiring intermediaries. Companies need not rely on Vietnam Electricity (EVN), a power generation company, owned by the state. Samsung Electronics believes that DPPA can strengthen their foundation in seeking renewable energy. Therefore, they cooperate with the government and civil society organizations Vietnam in in introducing the DPPA system. DPPA will be a new strategy in achieving net zero emissions and fixing climate problems. The company said that, "Samsung has stressed the need to introduce renewable energy procurement mechanisms as soon as possible."

Samsung believes that DPPA can implement carbon emission reduction mechanisms stably. To optimize emission reduction in Vietnam, Samsung is also working with several stakeholders at the Asia Clean Energy Coalition (ACEC). Director General of Samsung Vietnam Complex, Joo Ho Choi said that they will continue to cooperate with the Vietnamese government in advancing renewable energy infrastructure. They will cooperate with large-scale renewable energy producers. "Through DPPA, we plan to connect with large-scale renewable energy producers that are proportional to the operating size at Samsung Electronics Vietnam and make competitive renewable energy purchases," said Choi.
