KPU Asks The Government To Schedule Simultaneous Inauguration Of Regional Heads

Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari hopes that the government will immediately schedule the inauguration of elected regional heads in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections.

He considered this important so that the KPU as the election organizer had the right reference to determine the registration schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada candidates.

"So I think it is important for the KPU and for anyone, the provisions regarding when the simultaneous inauguration will be held," said Hasyim as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 25.

"As a measure of the KPU when receiving registration of people registered by political parties as candidates," he continued.

For information, the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections are underway. However, the KPU (PKPU) regulations to cover the election process are still in the harmonization stage between the KPU and the government and the DPR as the legislators of the Law (UU).

Hasyim said that currently the KPU was still using the previous PKPU in the size referral, including the minimum age limit for candidate pairs during registration.

However, the age limit was reformulated by the decision of the Supreme Court (MA) Number 24 which was previously sued by the Garuda Party. This change in norm must also be adopted by the KPU.

"Well, because even then at the time of the inauguration, we from the KPU view it as important that there is a policy formulation from the government regarding when the inauguration will actually be," said Hasyim.

"If it doesn't exist, the KPU will experience difficulties, actually when the inauguration will be held," he continued.

According to the election schedule, registration for prospective candidates will be held on August 27-29, 2024. So at that time the fulfillment of administrative requirements and conditions must be met.

Meanwhile, the government is said to have no intention of uniforming the schedule for the inauguration of elected regional heads as a result of the 2024 Pilkada.

"It doesn't have to be (the inauguration) at a simultaneous time," said the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Tito Karnavian, to reporters at the Ministry of Home Affairs office, Monday (24/6).
