Only Have 22 Attaches In The World, The Directorate General Of Immigration Has Determined The Coordination Area Of Officers Abroad
The Directorate General (Ditjen) of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has established a coordination area for immigration officers abroad.
This determination is the basis for the implementation of the task and function of the attach, technical staff, and the head of the Immigration field outside the assigned area.
"With the determination of this coordination area, it is hoped that the implementation of immigration duties and functions in all Indonesian representatives abroad can run more optimally and standardly," said Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Silmy Karim in an official statement, Wednesday, June 5, quoted by Antara.
Silmy explained that the determination of the coordination area was a resolution on the limitations of immigration attaches and staff abroad. Currently, there are 196 Indonesian representatives worldwide, while only 22 Indonesian representatives have immigration attaches.
The immigration technical attaches or staff are spread across nine Embassys of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI), 11 Consulate Generals of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI), and two consulates. This number is only about 11 percent of all Indonesian representatives.
This situation is a challenge in providing immigration services for Indonesian citizens who are in representatives of countries that do not yet have Immigration officials.
"However, this has never been formally determined, so it is necessary to determine the coordination area of each Immigration official," said Silmy.

For example, Immigration technical staff at the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles, in addition to having working areas including Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Utah, Southern Nevada, Southern California, and Pacific Islands areas under US territory, are also tasked with coordinating the implementation of immigration functions across the Americas consisting of one Embassy in Washington, DC, five Consulate Generals in Chicago (Illinois), Houston (Texas), Los Angeles (California), New York (New York), and San Francisco (California), as well as one honorary consulate in Honolulu (Hawaii).
With the stipulation of the coordination area for the Immigration officials, it is hoped that the implementation of immigration duties and functions in all Indonesian representatives in the world can run smoothly.
"Currently, every Immigration official in charge of representatives of the Republic of Indonesia is a reference for representatives of the surrounding Republic of Indonesia who do not have Immigration officials," said Silmy.
