California Files Bill To Require Age Verification On Pornography Sites
JAKARTA California is preparing a law to regulate access to pornographic sites. In the near future, Californians will have to verify their age when they want to watch porn.
Quoted from Gizmodo, this age verification rule is added to the Parental Accountability Act and Child Protection. If this rule has been passed, the state pornography company is required to implement a verification system.
This policy to verify age needs to be done to prevent children under the age of 18 from accessing the site. Reportedly, this law will have an impact on other businesses such as fireworks, BB weapons, and others.
When this bill was discussed in parliament, the majority of council members agreed with the regulation. A total of 65 members voted, while the other 15 registered council members chose not to vote.
In fact, age verification policies for porn sites are nothing new. Louisiana was the first country to implement this policy in 2022, followed by other countries such as Utah, Florida, Texas, and much more.

This age verification rule is also a debate, both among users and the driving company. Like Pornhub, for example, the largest pornographic website has a problem with age verification rules to access its platform.
Compared to following these rules, Pornhub decided to oppose it. In fact, this pornographic site withdraws from various countries that have implemented these rules, one of which is Texas.
"The Texas law on age verification is ineffective, haphazard, and dangerous. Until real solutions are offered, we have made difficult decisions to completely disable access to our website in Texas," Pornhub wrote on its website.
