Don't Let SMPN 73 Tebet Students Jump From 3rd Floor, Education Office Must Be More Attention

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) asked the Education Office to improve school facilities and infrastructure, to anticipate a similar incident at SMPN 73, Tebet, West Jakarta.

"We ask that the Education Office through the school budget, through the education office budget, ensure that these existing facilities guarantee child safety," said KPAI Commissioner Aris Adi Leksono when met by SMPN 73 Tebet, South Jakarta, Tuesday, May 21.

Aris highlighted that the protection system in schools is far from safe. Therefore, he recommends improving infrastructure such as a wall installed window, in order to prevent unwanted things.

"Because we don't know, we can't supervise and accompany children at any time. So the environmental situation, the facilities must support how the child's safety is prioritized," he said.

"Then it is possible for the child to then do things that endanger him," he added.

He admitted that there are still many school records that do not meet security standards. Therefore, his party will try to ask the Education Office to take these preventive steps.

"There are still many notes, one of which is tall buildings that we recommend so that later a release or tool is installed, a safety facility," he concluded.

Previously, it was reported that a student of SMPN 73, Tebet, South Jakarta with the initials GAD was desperate to jump from the 3rd floor of the school building, Monday, May 20, at 12.00 WIB. GAD admitted that his friends had avoided him. The victim felt that he had no friends who cared for him.

"The results of the victim's brief interview did this because he felt disturbed and not accompanied by his schoolmate," said Tebet Police Chief, Kompol Murohih, Monday, May 20.

"When jumping out of class, the victim was frustrated. On his own wishes, no one pushed him," he said.

Luckily, the lives of the survivors are now under medical treatment.
