Flood Victims In North Morowali Evacuated BPBD

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) said it had evacuated and was helping clean up the houses of flood-affected residents in East Bungku District, North Morowali Regency. "The flood occurred in Lahuafu Village on Wednesday (8 May) night at around 20.00 WITA due to high rainfall intensity," said Head of Central Sulawesi BPBD Emergency and Logistics Division Andy Sembiring, quoting Antara, Friday, May 10. He said the high intensity of rain caused the volume of water to pass through the gabions in Lahuafu Village so that water overflowed into residential areas. Obtaining that information, he said, the Morowali BPBD Rapid Response Team immediately went to the field and conducted an assessment as well as coordinated with local village officials and Babinsa. Based on the results of the assessment, he continued, as many as 86 families (KK) were affected by the flood, 50 houses were flooded, and six houses were moderately damaged. Meanwhile, four families have been evacuated to evacuate to a safer place.

"One person suffered minor injuries because of the incident," he said. For urgent needs, he said, residents need clean water and river normalization is carried out to prevent further flooding. Therefore, his party and the local government (Pemda) are currently normalizing the river to prevent flooding if there is another high-intensity rain. He said the current situation has receded and the Morowali and Babinsa BPBD personnel are also helping residents clean their houses.
