Meta Will Remove Facebook News Features In America And UK

JAKARTA Meta mengumumkan bahwa mereka berhenti menggunakan Facebook News dan akan menghapustab khusus berita di Facebook. Penghapusan ini akan dilakukan pada April mendatang.

Mark Zuckerberg's company said it wanted to put people's interest first at this time. Along with the decline in Facebook News users, Meta decided to focus on a more reliable video platform.

"As a company, we have to focus our time and resources on things they want them to see more on this platform, including short videos," Meta said via the company's blog.

Based on internal Meta data, Facebook News users in America and Australia fell by 80 percent last year. The percentage shows that the public's interest in using the Facebook News feature is indeed very small.

"As we said earlier in 2023, news only includes less than 3 percent of what people around the world see in their Facebook feed, and is a small part of Facebook's experience for most people."

Although news on Facebook will be deleted, users can still click the news architecture uploaded on Facebook. News publishers also still have access to the Facebook account and Page where they uploaded the news link.

Facebook News will only be deleted in America and the UK. Meta will not remove the feature in Australia, France and Germany because the company still has a Facebook News agreement with several publishers in the country.

Meta will continue cooperation with several publishers until their contract for the agreement expires. The company will not make any more new deals and will stop developing features related to news.

"We will not hold a new commercial deal for traditional news content in these countries and will not offer new Facebook products specifically for news publishers in the future," Meta concluded.
