Real Madrid Mourns The Death Of Club Legend Miguel Angel Gonzalez

JAKARTA - Real Madrid CF, together with its President and the Board of Directors, mourns announcing the death of Miguel Angel Gonzalez, one of the biggest goalkeepers in the club's history. The deceased is a legend of Real Madrid and Spanish football, "the club published an official statement via social media and their website on Tuesday morning, February 6.

"In 18 seasons where Miguel Angel wore the Real Madrid uniform, from 1968 to 1986, he won two UEFA Cups, eight La Liga titles, five Spanish Cups, and one League Cup. In the 1975-1976 season, he won the Zamora Trophy," the club added.

Madrid noted that Miguel Angel has represented his country 18 times and played in the World Cup which was held in Argentina in 1978 and in Spain in 1982.

"Miguel Angel has been linked with Real Madrid practically throughout his life. Apart from 18 seasons as a player, he also has different responsibilities as a delegation of the first team, goalkeeping coach, and director of Ciudad Deportiva, former Real Madrid..

"Miguel Angel passed away at the age of 76. Real Madrid expresses their condolences to all Madridistas. May you rest in peace," the statement said.

As Madrid mentioned, Miguel Angel Gonzalez is mostly related to Los Blancos in his life. However, he started his career playing handball before getting his first chance at football at AD Couto.

In 1967, he joined Real Madrid and was loaned to Castellon for his first season under their contract.

Starting the following year, he only played for the club from the Spanish capital and became the first choice as goalkeeper from 1974 to 1978.

Retiring in 1986 towards the age of 39, he remains bound by Madrid in several roles at the club.

At the end of his life, in December 2022, Miguel Angel was diagnosed with ALS who encouraged the club to express support for his fight against the disease through an official statement.
