Oscar Nominated, Colman Domingo Plays Michael Jackson's Father In Biopics

JAKARTA - Actor Colman Domingo is preparing to play a popular character again. He is confirmed to play Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father in a biopic entitled Michael.

This film tells the journey of Michael Jackson's career, played by Michael's nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Domingo plays Joe Jackson, the father who manages Jackson 5 and Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet from 1960 to the '80s.

"I'm excited to be part of a complicated film exploring a soul like Michael Jackson who is legendary and has its influence on music and culture as a global icon," Colman Domingo told People.

"I'm not only lucky to have a complex, rich, and wealthy character to play Joe Jackson, but I'm also sitting at the forefront of Jaafar's transformation. After seeing him rehearsal, my mind was highlighted," he said.

Domingo praised Jaafar's performance as his uncle with his extraordinary talent. This film is also Jaafar's acting debut on the big screen.

Jaafar is the son of Jermaine who is Michael's brother. Their father, Joe proposed Jackson 5 for a contract with Motown Records and made their career skyrocket. Joe Jackson died in 2018.

Colman Domingo became one of the actors who received an Oscar 2024 nomination for the first time. He received the nomination thanks to his role as Payd Rustin in the film Rustin.

He will also star in The Color Purple and Drive-Away Dolls. Colman Domingo also produced Michael's film which is scheduled to air on April 18, 2025.
