Searches For Payment Using Bitcoin On Japan's E-Commerce Platform "

JAKARTA - Searching, one of Japan's largest e-commerce platforms, will allow users to purchase products listed on its flag market application using Bitcoin (BTC) starting June 2024.

According to a Nikkei report, the e-commerce platform will facilitate Bitcoin transactions through its Tokyo-based subsidiary, Melcoin.

Prices of goods listed in the flea market app will be displayed in Japanese yen, with a Bitcoin payment option. Sellers will still receive Bitcoin paid in local fiat currency, as the marketplace will convert BTC through their exchange partners in real-time.

Mercari is one of Japan's largest consumer-to-consumer e-commerce marketplaces, with 22 million monthly users. The marketplace launched in 2013 and in five years, became the country's largest community-based e-commerce platform, with a usage rate of 94%.

The platform recorded a profit of 2.8 billion yen (IDR 300.9 billion) in the third quarter of 2023, and offering payment options with Bitcoin could encourage further adoption of BTC in a state of advanced technology.

Over the years, Mercari has embraced crypto on its platform. Recently, the company launched the Bitcoin Search crypto trading service, which allows users to buy and sell BTC using the proceeds from sales on the platform.

The e-commerce giant loyalty program is also crypto-centric, allowing users to exchange their points for cryptocurrencies.

Japan is considered a pro-crypto country with better regulations for businesses to operate and offer services to customers. This has helped e-commerce platforms become the gateway for crypto adoption in the country.

Selain Mercari, Rakuten platform e-commerce lain yang terkemukat juga telah pro-kripto selama waktu yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk membelahkan poin ketertiban menjadi kripto dan mengembangkan platform token nonfungible asli.
