In Order To Present Affordable EVs, VW Will Partner With Renault
JAKARTA - Volkswagen (VW) is a manufacturer that is currently showing its steps towards full electrification. Not only presenting sophisticated environmentally friendly vehicles, but the manufacturer intends to offer affordable vehicles.
Reporting from Automotive News, Saturday, December 9, the German manufacturer is reportedly in talks with Renault in EV development at an affordable price of 20,000 euros (equivalent to IDR 335.5 million).
The company is interested in working together on the creation of a car platform which is expected to make battery-powered vehicles affordable for the wider community. However, talks between the two sides are still in the talks stage.
The presence of EVs at affordable prices is expected to meet the annual production target of 200,000 to 250,000 units that both companies want to achieve.
Previously, Renault announced that it would launch the next generation of Twingo as the city car EV in 2026. It is said that this car will be a model at a price of less than 20,000 euros.
At that time, Luca de Meo, Renault CEO, had shown a preview version of the model at the launch of the Ampere unit, Renault Group's special automotive brand EV.

European automakers are accelerating their plans to market electric cars at affordable prices in response to Chinese automotive companies. According to automotive research firm JATO Dynamics, the average retail price of an electric vehicle in Europe in the first half of 2023 is more than 65,000 euros, much more expensive when compared to China, which is only more than 31,000 euros.
