Hyundai Launches TIGER, Robot Operable On Earth And Space
JAKARTA - The South Korean automotive manufacturer, Hyundai Motor Group, is launching a new product innovation in the future. This time, Hyundai is launching a future innovative robot that combines mobility and robotics.
Named TIGER, the smart mobility robot was launched online via Hyundai's official YouTube channel. TIGER itself stands for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot (TIGER).
TIGER was developed by New Horizons Studio, which is the Hyundai's Mobility Department, in collaboration with US software design company Autodesk.
The TIGER has a similar structure to Hyundai Motor's 'Elevate' mobile concept that was revealed at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
TIGER measures 80 centimeters long, 40 centimeters wide, and weighs 12 kilograms. It has four legs with extendable wheels, making it capable of moving in all directions on complex terrain.
The first TIGER is the X-1 concept model, where X denotes its experimental status. Interestingly, TIGER is designed to be used on earth and in outer space.
The robots can be used for exploration and scientific research purposes, transporting emergency medical supplies or performing multipurpose tasks in terrain difficult for ordinary vehicles to access. The TIGER is also able to move sideways and can easily change direction when needed.
It also contains a protected storage area and its four legs can maintain a horizontal position at all times, to transport supplies safely over rough and irregular terrain.
"Vehicles like the TIGER and the technology embedded in them, give us the opportunity to further push our imagination. We are constantly thinking of ways to improve vehicle design and development and redefine the future of transportation and mobility," said Head of New Horizons Studio John Suh as reported by Koreatimes.
Last year, New Horizons Studio began developing a vehicle capable of off-road travel.
Hyundai said, TIGER can be used to explore the moon or other planets. On Earth, TIGER can be used to deliver products, medicines, and food to areas affected by natural disasters or places that are difficult to access.
