Fake Promise Of Work In Korea Ends Victim Report, Men In West Lombok Arrested By TIP Task Force

The Mataram City Resort Police (Polres) uncovered a case of alleged fraud by promising victims to work as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to South Korea (South Korea).

Head of Public Relations of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police Commissioner Arman Asmara Syarifuddin said this case was revealed after the victim with the initials MSA reported to the police.

"Following up on the victim's report, the TIP Task Force Team (Task Force) (Tindak Pidana Perdagangan Orang) of the Mataram Police arrested the man with the initials HA who was suspected of being the perpetrator," said Arman in Mataram, Monday, June 19, as reported by Antara.

The suspected 62-year-old perpetrator was arrested on Sunday, June 18 at his home in the Narmada area, West Lombok Regency.

From the results of the examination, investigators have named HA as a suspect by applying Article 81 in conjunction with Article 69 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) and/or Article 378 of the Criminal Code.

Furthermore, Arman explained that the basis for investigators to determine HA as a TIP suspect was evidence of sending money from the victim to the suspect who promised five years ago that he would send the victim to South Korea.

"The money is Rp. 30 million. He said it was for the cost of departing for Korea. However, until five years there was no clarity, the victim reported it to the police," he said.

The victim also in the report admitted that he sent money to the suspect because he was tempted by the promise of a large salary to work in South Korea.

"The promise is paid Rp. 15 million per month," he said.
