Twitter will Start Removing The Old Blue Checkmarks on April 1st

JAKARTA - Twitter, a social media network owned by Elon Musk, has announced that they will remove the verification mark or the old blue tick from the platform starting April 1.

"On April 1st, we will begin winding down the legacy verified program and removing the legacy verified checkmark," Twitter said in its latest announcement on Friday, March 24.

However, Twitter emphasizes that you can still maintain the blue tick in your account, by signing up for a Twitter Blue subscription.

The removal of the old blue tick has actually been discussed by the CEO, Elon Musk for months. Last December, Musk said the company would remove the tag in the coming months, due to "the way it's given out doesn't make sense."

Since then, owners of the old blue tick have seen a pop-up when they click their checkmark that says, “This is an old verified account. It may or may not be famous.”

Before Musk officially acquired the company, Twitter used blue ticks to verify individuals and entities as active, genuine, and well-known. What's more, verified checkmarks are shared for free.

However, currently, Twitter users can buy blue ticks through a Twitter Blue subscription for IDR 165.000 per month (registration via iOS and Android), and IDR 120.000 per month if they subscribe via the web.

This announcement comes right after Twitter announced that Twitter Blue subscriptions are now available globally worldwide.
