30 Meter Cliff In Sukabumi Shifted Yesterday, 8 Houses Are Affected Today, BPBD Ensures Zero Fatalities

JABAR - A total of 8 houses in Kampung Gudang, Sukabumi Regency, were hit by landslides on two consecutive days, namely on the evening of Sunday 26 February, and Monday 27 February.

"There were no fatalities in the landslide incident that occurred on Sunday and Monday, but as many as eight heads of families (KK) in Ciheulangtonggoh Village, Cibadak District, had to lose their homes," said the Manager of the Operations Control Center for the District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Sukabumi, Daeng Sutisna, in Sukabumi, West Java, Monday 27 February.

Information compiled by disaster management officials, the landslide initially occurred on Sunday, February 26 evening.

The cliff which is on the banks of the Ciheulang River with a height of 30 meters and a length of 20 meters collapsed because parts were eroded by the river currents. There were no casualties in the incident.

However, on Monday 27 February, another landslide occurred which resulted in 8 houses being heavily damaged.

Meanwhile, Ciheulangtongoh Village Secretary (Sekdes) Lili Lesmana added, landslides often occur in the Ciheulangtongoh area due to erosion of the cliffs by the currents of the Ciheulang River.

Even though there were no casualties in this landslide disaster, his party still appealed to residents whose houses are right on the banks of the river to remain vigilant and if there is a potential for further landslides it would be better to evacuate for a while.

His party is currently still holding deliberations with affected residents regarding the relocation plan, bearing in mind that currently, heavy rains continue to flush the Cibadak District and its surroundings which can trigger further landslides.
