Kinging Until The Fifth Week, Avatar: The Way Of Water Still Tops the Box Offices In North America
JAKARTA - The film Avatar: The Way of Water is still attracting audiences in North America which is expected to maintain its first position at the box office in the fifth week since the film's release, according to Variety broadcast Saturday, January 14.
The James Cameron film added $7 million in revenue from 4.035 theaters in North America on Friday January 13, bringing its domestic total to $538.8 million.
"Avatar 2" is eyeing an estimated $36 million in additional revenue over the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. However, total revenue from Friday January 13 to Sunday is projected to fall by around 36 percent compared to last weekend.
This sequel to "Avatar" is the seventh highest-grossing film ever worldwide, with a global total of $1.7 billion and counting.
With continued box office domination and no high competition in the near future, "Avatar 2" is touted as having a chance to become the first film to reach USD 2 billion worldwide since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Avatar: The Way of Water isn't the only film showing strong signs at the domestic box office. The horror film "M3GAN" is expected to take second place by pocketing an additional USD 20 million during the four-day holiday period, as reported by Antara.
