If KPK Is Not Firm, MAKI Says That Lukas Enembe's Supporters Will Feel They Have The Upper Hand

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been asked not to hesitate to forcibly pick up Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe, who is accused of corruption. The longer the anti-corruption commission is said to be able to make Lukas supporters feel the upper hand.

"With this (attitude, ed) the KPK actually creates problems for LE supporters because they feel they have the upper hand and they think this case is indeed political," said the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman to reporters, Thursday, October 6.

The slow pace of the KPK in taking a stand even though Lukas was not cooperative in responding to the investigator's summons was also unfortunate. According to Boyamin, many Papuans who had previously supported the anti-corruption commission were furious.

"Not all Papuans, in fact, most of them do not support LE. Some have even told me to ask the KPK to enforce the law strictly," he said.

"In fact, the indecision of the KPK is causing problems. For what reason, Papuans who do not support LE are even more irritated, so they do not support the KPK," continued Boyamin.

If indeed the KPK is afraid that conditions in Papua will become unstable, they should immediately take action. Don't let the legal case that ensnares Luke become protracted and lead to speculation.

"Actually, this must be picked up forcibly while it's hot like this. But if it's going to be a long time, it will be more difficult," said Boyamin.

As previously reported, KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata also stated that his party would not rush to summon Lukas Enembe. They do not want their actions to have an impact that disrupts security stability in Papua.

"There are risks that of course we have to take into account there. We don't want the KPK's action to cause excesses that we don't want," said Alexander.

The KPK has named Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe as a suspect in alleged corruption. The case against him has not yet been disclosed.

Lukas will actually be questioned on Monday, September 26 at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta. However, this examination was not carried out because he claimed to be sick and could not provide information.

Next, the anti-corruption commission will call again. However, it has not been revealed when this will be implemented. Lukas was only asked to cooperate in responding to the investigator's summons. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that his statement was urgently needed to clarify the allegations of corruption that occurred.
