Champions League Semifinal First Leg: Own Goal, Liverpool Beats Villarreal At Anfield
JAKARTA - Liverpool won at home to Villarreal at Anfield Stadium, Thursday, April 28 in the morning of GMT+7 (Indonesian Time). The Reds won 2-0 over their visitors in the first leg of the 2021/2022 Champions League semifinal.
This victory did not come easily. In the first half Liverpool were unable to break into Villarreal's goal despite having several chances.
While Villarreal is more defensive. This makes the threat to Liverpool's goal fairly non-existent. The first half ended with the score 0-0.
Liverpool just broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Villarreal defender, Pervis Estuppinan, made a mistake in anticipating the arrival of the ball.
Instead, he made the ball go into his own team's goal, which was escorted by Geronimo Rulli.
Two minutes later, the hosts again added to the advantage. Liverpool's second goal was scored by Sadio Mane who managed to take advantage of the ball from Mohamed Salah.
In the remaining matches, Liverpool continued to press the defense of the Spanish La Liga club. However, none of them were converted into a third goal.
Until the match ended, the score was 2-0 for Liverpool's advantage to survive. This result is sufficient capital for Jurgen Klopp's team in the face of the second leg.
