SEMARANG - The Central Java Police General Criminal Investigation Directorate team arrested a member of a luxury car thief gang by installing the "Global Positioning System (GPS)" device on the car he was targeting.
"This is a new mode, the targeted car is equipped with GPS and the location is known", said Director of the General Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Police, Kombes Djuhandani, in Semarang, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 2.
According to him, one suspect with the initials R acted as a picker or perpetrator who stole the car based on the GPS points that had been installed in the car.
In the action, the perpetrator took away a Jeep Rubicon belonging to a resident of Sukoharjo Regency some time ago.
According to him, the results of the investigation revealed that the stolen car was in Bandung for resale.
Kombes Djuhandani explained that the suspect received an order from someone to steal a car that had been targeted according to the GPS point.

The perpetrator who ordered and provided information about the car that was the target, he said, is currently in the custody of the Polda Metro Jaya on suspicion of fraud and embezzlement.
Currently, he continued, investigators are still exploring the mode of installing the GPS device installed in the car that was the target of this gang.
"There is another car that has been targeted by this gang, based on the GPS points obtained by the development of this case, the car is in Wonosobo", he said.
He said several ways were allegedly used to install GPS in luxury cars that were the targets of theft.
According to him, there are allegations of involvement in the workshop where the luxury cars usually undergo maintenance or repairs.
