JAKARTA - Microsoft says they will discontinue WordPad soon, the application has reached the end of its life on the Windows Operating System (OS).

"WordPad is no longer being updated and will be removed in a future release of Windows," Microsoft said in its official blog post.

The basic text-editing application has been installed automatically on Windows systems since 1995, although it was later labeled as an optional feature since 2020.

Users can remove them, if they wish. This program offers them a basic word processor and document editor.

Microsoft also suggests that users take advantage of two of the company's other products. Includes Microsoft Word and Windows NotePad, which can do what most users need from WordPad.

"We recommend Microsoft Word for rich text documents such as .doc and .rtf and Windows Notepad for plain text documents such as .txt," Microsoft said.

However, the company has not disclosed the exact deadline for the application termination process. Microsoft seems to be diligent in cleaning applications or features that users rarely use.

A few days ago, Microsoft made the announcement that they would be shutting down Visual Studio for Mac, as quoted by XDA Developers, Monday, September 4.
