JAKARTA - Netflix added a new feature that gives users the ability to give a thumbs up and down as a sign of liking or disliking a film.

This new feature, which works on mobile devices, is useful for teaching Netflix's algorithms about preferences for movies, or other content to be displayed.

In addition, the thumbs rating feature can also provide more personalized recommendations based on what they have watched and liked.

So instead of having to go back to a TV show or movie page to give it a thumbs up rating, this new feature makes it easier for users to provide live ratings while watching movies.

Users can directly tap the screen, then select Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down or Two Thumbs Up, then users can continue watching.

“You may like a series you love so much that you forgot to open its details page to give it a Double Thumbs Up,” a Netflix spokesperson told TechCrunch, quoted Tuesday, August 8.

“Just one easy step can help us suggest more movies and series that are more tailored to your taste,” he added.

The thumbs-up button will first roll out to iOS, and Android users in the coming weeks.

Compiled from The Verge, Netflix began moving from a star system to a thumb system in 2017. Then, the company added double thumbs up in 2022 as a new way for users to provide information they really like what they are watching.
