Demanded 15 Years In Prison, Galumbang Menak Does Not Participate In Enjoying The Corruption Results Of BTS Kominfo

JAKARTA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) has demanded Galumbang Menak Simanjuntak, a defendant in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of BTS towers with a prison sentence of 15 years. In one of his mitigating considerations, the Prosecutor assessed that Galumbang did not participate in enjoying the results of corruption.

"The defendant behaved politely, had never been convicted, and did not enjoy the results of a criminal act of corruption," said the prosecutor during a trial at the Central Jakarta District Court, Monday, October 30.

It is known, before becoming a defendant in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of BTS towers, Galumbang was the President Director of PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk.

The man who was born in Tarutung, North Sumatra even has a number of good achievements and achievements, especially being involved in a number of national strategic projects in the telecommunications sector.

Galumbang himself is known as one of the successful telecommunications entrepreneurs in Indonesia. He is the founder with the last position as President Director of PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Indonesia.

Galumbang started his career in telecommunications in 1989 as an engineer at PT Telkom. In 1995, he joined PT Excelcomindo Pratama (XL) as network manager. Then 5 years later or in 2000, he founded PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk.

Galumbang is the originator of Voice over IP (VoIP), which is an international telephone service at affordable prices in Indonesia. The idea was sparked by the needs of migrant workers who wanted to communicate with their families in the country.

The project that made Galumbang's name known in the field of Telecommunications when Moratelindo became the first Indonesian company to have the ability to install a fiber optic network at Orchard Road, Singapore.

The name Galumbang became increasingly popular when he worked on the West Palapa Ring and East Palapa Ring projects. Both are national strategic projects for the Central Government's priority infrastructure, namely the installation of 8,300 kilometers of fiber optic cables in Indonesia.

The installation of the fiber optic cable was completed in 2019 and was inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo.

In 2020, PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk, through KSO BPS-MORATELINDO, which is a joint operation, won the Semarang City Government's trust to cooperate in development projects, operations, business and provision of passive telecommunication infrastructure services in the Semarang City area.

In 2023, Galumbang stumbled upon a case of alleged corruption in the procurement of BTS towers, so he decided to resign from PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk. This resignation was carried out after the company he founded for 23 years had conducted an IPO in the previous year.
