Prone To Politization, PPP Proposes Legal Process Involving Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Postponed

JAKARTA - PPP DPP chairman Achmad Baidowi or Awiek suggested that the legal process involving candidates for presidential and vice presidential candidates be postponed in order to avoid the impression of mixing the law and politics. This was said by Awiek in response to the summons of the General Chairperson of the PKB, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin by the KPK regarding the alleged corruption case of the TKI protection system at the Ministry of Manpower in 2012. According to Awiek, the summons made to prospective vice presidential candidates was prone to being politicized. "It is better if, when it is still at the election stage, the summons or legal process for candidates for presidential or legislative candidates is postponed, so as not to seem to mix between politics and law," Awiek told reporters, Wednesday, September 6. The secretary of the PPP faction of the DPR RI considered it natural for Cak Imin to summon as a witness with a political nuance. In fact, according to him, there could be accusations of interference from the authorities behind the summoning of the Anies Baswedan couple. "When there are candidates for presidential, vice presidential candidates, legislative or regional election participants are summoned by law enforcers, while in the process of nominating him, the accusations that are always made against the authorities include the government coalition. Even though the legal process is running according to the rails," said Awiek. Nevertheless, Awiek believes that the summoning of the deputy chairman of the DPR as a witness by the KPK is purely a legal issue. It's just that the inappropriate momentum makes the summons seem political.

"Although we understand it is purely legal, because the moment did not fit as if it was being forced. When forced, the accusation is the government coalition. But go ahead and provide an explanation," said Awiek.
