Ganjar Pranowo Says Communication With Airlangga Hasn't Discussed Vice Presidential Candidates

JAKARTA - The presidential candidate from the PDI-P Ganjar Pranowo said his political communication with the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, had not yet reached the stage of discussing the vice presidential candidate (cawapres). "Not yet, it has not yet reached that stage (discussing the vice president)," said Ganjar to the media crew after giving a speech at the training of the campaign interpreter (jurkam) for the winning team for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo, in Central Jakarta, Antara, Monday, July 17. Previously, Ganjar Pranowo as Governor of Central Java held a meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs as well as the General Chair of the Golkar Party Airlangga Hartarto, Monday afternoon. Ganjar admitted that he had spoken about politics with Airlangga outside the meeting room. " “ Yes, our political communication continues for all matters, yes. In the sense that everyone wants to explore, everyone wants to communicate, and of course we open the communication space," said Ganjar. Furthermore, Ganjar also said that he and Airlangga were both alumni of Gadjah Mada University (UGM). They are also members of the Gadjah Mada Alumni Family (Kagama). Therefore, Ganjar admitted that he often met and communicated with Airlangga. In fact, he did not deny having had time to discuss the possibilities of politics in the future. "We are talking about future agendas, although of course in the interest of prex. Negotiations will definitely be made," he said. In accordance with the RI KPU schedule, the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates will start from October 19 to November 25, 2023. Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections (UU Pemilu) regulates that pairs of presidential/vice-presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in elections that meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total number of seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that the presidential/vice presidential candidate pair in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in support from the Indonesian House of Representatives. Candidate pairs can also be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election, with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
