The Ministry Of Home Affairs Asks The Papua Fire Department To No Longer Have One Structure With Satpol PP

PAPUA - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has asked the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) to form a Fire Department (Damkar).

Director of Disaster and Fire Management (MPBK) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Edy Suharmanto said the formation of the Fire Service was in accordance with Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation Number 16 of 2020 concerning Guidelines for the Nomenclature of the Provincial, Rescue and Regency/City Fire Departments.

"For that, we hope that the Papua Provincial Government can think about it so that the Damkar can stand alone even though it is type C. Likewise, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) can stand alone," he said in Jayapura, Wednesday, May 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to Edy, the fire department has a very big role and can be used by local governments to increase local revenue (PAD).

"In fact, there are quite a lot of district and city governments that issue regional regulations about this," he said.

He explained, according to the laws and regulations that cover the fire department, all office buildings, including hotels, cannot get permission if fire fighting inspections have not been carried out related to fire protection.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and the Papua Regional Disaster Management Welliam R Manderi said that his party welcomed the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs because so community services would be more effective.

"But again, this is a government policy related to the budget. If the budget is sufficient and can be separated even better. Moreover, since 2020 we have never received assistance from the center because the nomenclature is not clear," he said.

According to Manderi, the Papua Provincial Fire Department is still one of the sections in the Papua Civil Service Police Unit.
