BATAM - PT PLN Batam, a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), appealed to business actors to use their generator machines related to rotating power outages as a result of the hot weather in Batam, Riau Islands.

"We have coordinated with business actors in industrial areas and appealed to turn on their generators, so that they can avoid blackouts. Until now, we are still coordinating with business actors so that their machines are operated," said PLN Batam Vice President of Public Relations. Panggabean Evidence quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 16.

He explained that the rotating blackout had to be carried out due to the increase in the use of electricity due to the hot weather in recent days.

In addition, with the increase in air temperature, the ability of the engine at the Tanjung Kasam and Tanjung Uncang Steam Power Plants (PLTU) has also decreased.

"Indeed, it also has a connection, currently air temperature is rising. With this rising air temperature, electricity usage rose. In the past, our load was 560 megawatts for peak load, now 585 megawatts. In addition, with this rising temperature, our engine capability has decreased," he said.

To overcome that, he explained that his party is currently preparing an additional 75 megawatts of power generation.

The additional power plant, he said, would gradually enter with 25 megawatts operating optimally in early July 2023 and 50 megawatts in early September 2023.

"The addition of power is still under construction, so now it has entered in stages," he said.
