Mr Brightside From The Killers Becomes The Most Played English Song In Spotify History

JAKARTA - The song Mr Brightside from The Killers is declared the most played song in Spotify's history.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the music player app, Music Week reports that Spotify has made a list of the biggest artists and songs since its launch in October 2008.

Mr Brightside (released on September 29, 2003) has more than 1.8 billion streams globally on October 9, 2023. However, Spotify did not release the number of British-only streaming.

Mr Brightside previously broke the UK charts record in 2021 by spending 260 weeks not consecutively on the Top 100 single UK charts. On October 10, that figure increased to 382 weeks nearly seven years.

The song was released as the main single of The Killers' debut album, Hot Fuss, and only reached number ten as the highest chart position. However, thanks to his extraordinary dedication, Mr Brightside enjoyed a consistent level of consumption that contributed to the astonishing number of streams.

Apart from Mr Brightside, the most played songs include Vance Joy's Riptide in number six and Do I Wanna Know? owned by Arctic Monkeys at number 7.

Spotify also revealed British artists with the highest number of streaming globally on Spotify over the past 15 years. Ed Sheeran has been named the male artist with the most streaming streams. The song Shape of You is declared the most widely played British song global (3.6 billion streaming on October 11).

Meanwhile, Dua Lipa is ranked as the female artist with the highest number of streaming. Her hits Don't Start Now and New Rules are also included in 15 Top songs by all-time British artists on the platform.
