Director Wonka Puji Suara Timoth Chalamet: Bagus Seperti Bing Crosby

JAKARTA - Paul King, director of the Wonka film praised the hard work of his main character, Timothatur Chalamet in his latest film. In addition to his acting, King said Chalamet had a good voice like Bing Crosby, a singer and actor in the 20th century.

(Chalamet) has a good singing voice, said Paul King in an interview with Total Film.

"His voice reminds me of Bing Crosby. There is a wide range, because from bigger things, which are attracting attention, to real moments, pure emotions and he can do everything... I will sound like a crazy fan," he explained.

Chalamet's voice is judged according to the concept of Wonka's film which has many musical sides. Even so, Paul King does not want this film to only be filled with singing in dialogues like most musical films.

The Oompa Loompa sings a lot in books, and (Roald) Dahl always uses poetry. But I don't want this to be a musical where people sing dialogues for each other for no apparent reason," Paul King said.

I think this is a film with songs rather than musicals, he said again. Wonka's film players besides Chalamet are Kean-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Jim Carter, Matt Lucas, Natasha Rothwell, Tom Davis, Mathew Baynton and Simon Farnaby.

Seasoned actor Hugh Grant will play Oompa-Loompa and look forward to his performance after he appeared in Wonka's first teaser.

This film is adapted from the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Rould Dahl in 1964. Chalamet is the third person to play Wonka.

In 1971, Gene Wilder became Willy Wonka in a film directed by Mel Stuart, then Johnny Depp became Wonka in the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory directed by Tim Burton under Warner Bros. production.

Willy Wonka, played by Timothatur Chalamet, is said to want to have his own chocolate. He traveled for seven years until he arrived in Europe. But the struggle was hindered when Wonka met with a brown cartel.

Wonka will air on December 15, 2023, theatrically.
