A Gang Of Railroad Thieves In Probolinggo Arrested By Police
Three members of a gang of perpetrators of the theft of the railroad belonging to PT KAI, were finally arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Probolinggo Police, East Java.
The three perpetrators, namely AA (45 years), MS (43), and J (50) are residents of Pandansari Hamlet, threesan Wetan Village, Leces District, Probolinggo Regency.
The three of them are known to have stolen railroad tracks in the Leces Station area in Sumber Kedawung Village, Leces District, Probolinggo Regency.
After being arrested, the three perpetrators were immediately taken by officers to the Probolinggo Police Headquarters, to undergo further legal proceedings.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Probolinggo Police, Iptu Putra Fajar Adi Winarsa, said that the three perpetrators were known to have carried out their actions on October 31, 2023 at around 23.00 WIB.
At that time, officers received public reports about the theft of railroad tracks. Officers moved quickly by visiting the location and making arrests.
"Initially after receiving the report, our members immediately carried out investigations and investigations. Until finally, the three perpetrators could be arrested," said Fajar, Thursday, November 23.
Fajar said, as a result of the theft the state suffered a loss of Rp. 15 million. "The total amount of evidence that we have secured is 17 rail lonjors. There is 1.5 meters long," he explained.
Although the stolen rail is a used railroad, according to Fajar, its function is still quite vital. This is because the stolen rail is a train line pad. "So the information of the reporter, namely PT KAI. Indeed, the stolen rail is a cushion," said Fajar.
Fajar said that during the arrest of the three perpetrators, officers secured evidence of a number of rails, which were transported by a Daihatsu Terios SUV with police number N 1388 NN.
"To account for their actions, the three perpetrators will be charged with Article 363 paragraph (1) of the 4th Criminal Code. With the threat of a maximum imprisonment of 7 years," said Fajar.

Meanwhile, one of the perpetrators admitted that he stole a number of railroad tracks because he had to because he was stuck and needed money. "This is the first time I have taken it and I know it is prohibited," he explained.
For his actions, the three perpetrators were immediately taken by officers, and then thrown into the Probolinggo Police Headquarters detention cell.
