ICW Considers Polda Metro To Be Slow In Handling Cases Of Alleged SYL Extortion
JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) assesses that the Polda Metro Jaya has protracted in handling cases of alleged extortion by the KPK leadership against the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo. This is because dozens of witnesses have been examined for mercy and have never named a suspect.
"ICW feels that Polda Metro Jaya is too protracted in processing the law on cases of alleged criminal acts of extortion and meetings between KPK leaders and litigants," said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana to reporters, Thursday, November 9.
According to him, not only examining dozens of witnesses, but photo evidence showing Firli's meeting with SYL had circulated.
In fact, Kurnia claimed that there had been witness statements that said there was a transfer of money from SYL to the KPK chairman.
"There was an acknowledgment from several parties that confirmed the handover of money from Syahrul to Firli in the amount of billions of rupiah," he said.
On that basis, the Polda Metro Jaya should have no trouble determining the suspect in this case. The articles that can be suspected are Article 12 letter e of the Anti-Corruption Law and Article 36 in conjunction with Article 65 of the KPK Law.
With the length of the handling process, Kurnia suggested that the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo pay attention to the handling of the case.
"Because, the context of the past of the Metro Jaya Police Chief, Karyoto, who was Firli's subordinate when he served as Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK could not be eliminated. There should not be a conflict of interest in investigating Firli's violations at Polda Metro Jaya," he said.

In addition, the National Police Chief can also target the Metro Jaya Police Chief to resolve the case.
"The National Police Chief can give the Metro Jaya Police Chief a deadline. For example, if within the next 7 days Polda Metro Jaya investigators cannot find out who the suspects are, then the law enforcement of this case will be taken over completely by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police," said Kurnia.
Meanwhile, in the progress of investigating the alleged extortion case against Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Polda Metro Jaya has examined around 70 witnesses.
Not only witnesses, in an effort to resolve this alleged extortion case, investigators also asked for information from five experts.
The experts are, one micro expression expert, three criminal law experts, and one procedural law expert.
