Archaeologists Find 1,000-Year-Old Mumi On Peruvian Archaeological Sites
JAKARTA - Archaeologists in Peru managed to find a 1,000-year-old mummy at an archaeological site located in a residential environment in the nation's capital, Lima.
The remains were found next to ceramic vessels, textiles and other objects on the Huaca Puclana site in the middle of Miraflores District, said chief archaeologist Mirzal Ganoza.
"This is an adult individual sitting with his legs bent," he told Reuters.
The mummy found may have lived about a billion ago, early in the culture of the Ychsma that developed on modern Peruvian central coast during the social reorganization period, before the arrival of the Inca Tribe to the area, Ganoza said.
It is known that mummies and ancient offerings have been found on the Huaca Puclana site. Experts see the site as Pandora's Box and much more to be found.
Although famous for Inca's royal resting place at the top of Mount Machu Picchu, Peru is home to a variety of pre-Hispanic cultures that developed rapidly centuries before the Inca kingdom came to power, especially along the central coast of the country and the Andes.
"I find it quite interesting that right at the heart of Miraflores, in the middle of the city, surrounded by modern buildings and constructions, an important site that is still preserved, the center of the Huaca Puclana ceremony," Ganoza said.
