Meeting Dortmund, PSG Don't Want To Repeat Mistakes When Losing To Nice
JAKARTA - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will undergo the inaugural match of Group F of the 2023/2024 Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, Wednesday, September 20 in the morning WIB. PSG is believed to be transforming after poor results in Ligue 1 France last weekend.
Luis Enrique's team lost 2-3 to Nice in the domestic match. The result also ended PSG's winning streak in the previous two matches.
The defending Ligue 1 champion is expected to rise and return to winning tracks when he hosted Borussia Dortmund. Moreover, the match at the Parc de Princes Stadium will mark PSG's first steps in the Champions League this season.
For this reason, Luis Enrique admitted that he had prepared a number of minor changes in the PSG squad in the match against Dortmund. This change is a form of response to the bad results of the previous match.
"There are always so many details that must continue to be improved in football. The match against Nice has nothing to do with the match against Dortmund. The two matches are in different competitions. We still have room to improve our abilities," Enrique said as reported by the club's official website, Tuesday, September 19.
This year is PSG's 11th season in the Champions League since it was officially acquired by the investment agency from Qatar, Qatar Sport Investment. However, during that period, PSG failed to win the Champions League, despite having brought in various star players.
PSG's best achievement in that period was when it advanced to the top party in the 2019/2020 season. At that time, PSG's dream to lift the Champions League trophy was tackled by Bayern Munich.
PSG then continued to hunt for its inaugural title in the Champions League, including this season. However, Enrique also emphasized that PSG would not be obsessed with this prestigious trophy.
"Obsession to something is not a good sign. You need hope and ambition, but not obsession. Obsession to something will never bring you success," said the former Spanish national team coach.
