Responding To The Call Of Jakarta No Longer DKI But DKJ, BRIN: To Maintain History

JAKARTA - Head of the Language and Literature Preservation Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Obing Katubi said that the replacement of the name of Jakarta, which was originally a Special Capital Region (DKI) to a Special Region for Jakarta (DKJ), aims to maintain historical value.

"The use of the Special word in DKJ is to maintain the collective memory of the community, about the role of Jakarta, which was once the capital city," said Obing when contacted on Friday, September 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

Furthermore, Obing explained that the change in the name of DKI Jakarta to DKJ was in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) No. 2 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Name of Rupa Bumi.

Obing said that the DKJ's name was not only to maintain the historical value of Jakarta, but also to realize administrative order as mandated in the PP.

However, he assessed that the community needed time to adapt to the new title held by Jakarta.

This is because every language user has a mental dictionary or mental lexicon which is in the form of a word 'odd', related to the use of meaning, its relationship with other words, and historical naming.

"An extra effort is needed to replace the old words with new words, both psychologically, mentally, and in time," said Obing.

Previously in the Jakarta Special Region Draft Law (RUU) meeting, which was attended by high state officials, at the Merdeka Palace, Tuesday (12/9), the name DKI Jakarta will be changed to DKJ after the capital city officially moves to IKN.

The name change as stated in Law (UU) No. 3 of 2022 concerning the State Capital (IKN), which when referring to the law, Jakarta's status will change from what was previously DKI to DKI.
