Releasing Polydemic With Direct Action, Tyo Nugros Describes Life Cycle Through Playing Drums
JAKARTA - Tyo Nugros released the Polydemic EP through his music project with Joseph Saryuf, Direct Action. Containing two songs, Polydemic was chosen as the lead single, alongside Masonethichs.
The single title Polydemic is taken from the words polyrhythm and pandemic. The reason is, this song presents a complex polyrhythmic from Tyo Nugros' drumming and was composed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through Polydemic, Tyo Nugros wants to illustrate that construction and deconstruction (rearrangement) are inseparable parts of human life.
“The message is that we as humans always have the same pattern in the cycle of life. From birth we create something, but what we create we destroy again, then we fall down, then we rise again to do things together," Tyo Nugros explained the message from the Polydemic song, in a press conference in Kuningan, South Jakarta, Tuesday, August 22.
"When you hear the music, it's like that too. From the beginning it was calm, then until the end it was chaotic," he continued.
Regarding the life cycle in question, Tyo Nugros described that conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic quite well represented what he meant.
Tyo Nugros clearly wanted to present a different style of play that he couldn't show with Dewa. With electro-rock music that carried, he felt he could explore more in playing.
“This is one of my group's styles which is progressive rock but mixed with electronic. One that I can explore here," he said.

Tyo Nugros and Joseph Saryuf clearly don't want to mess with Direct Action's music project. They want to bring electro-rock to the surface and even want to speak in the development of world music today.
"Hopefully our band and this song can open people's minds about the existence of electro-rock music in Indonesia. We also want to show the world that Indonesia can make music like this," said Tyo Nugros.
“It's time when the world is talking about electro-rock or math rock, Direct Action is also included in the conversation. And it would be even better if Direct Action actually became the impetus for these talks," he said.
