Construction Of VVIP Airport At IKN Accelerated, Operational Target August 17, 2024
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi encourages the acceleration of the construction of the VVIP airport in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), both from the air and land sides.
Budi hopes that with this acceleration, the airport, which is located in Penajam District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province, can be used in August next year.
"Currently, the airport construction preparation process is being carried out, which refers to the runway design and terminal by the nation's children. We hope that what we are building will be used on August 17, 2024," Budi said, in an official statement, Sunday, August 6.
Furthermore, Budi said the design of the VVIP airport will show the characteristics of Kalimantan culture. In addition, the airport will also have an environmentally friendly concept or green airport and pay attention to the aesthetic side.
"We will provide the best effort so that the architecture from here looks cultural from Kalimantan, and don't forget the concept is green airport," he said.

In accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 31 of 2023 concerning the Acceleration of Development and Operation of IKN VVIP Airport, the Minister of Transportation together with the Minister of PUPR were appointed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to lead the construction and operation of VVIP Airport.
VVIP IKN Airport will be used to serve the interests of government activities in IKN. Built with a terminal area of 2000 square meters (m2) and a VIP terminal of 5000 m2 and a runway of 3000 x 485 meters, this airport is about 25 kilometers (km) from Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan and about 107 km from Samarinda Airport.
The funding for the construction and operation of VVIP Airport comes from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) or other legitimate sources in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.
