The Increase In Rice Prices Is The Largest Inflation Contributor In August 2023 In Jember

JEMBER - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Jember Regency noted that the increase in rice prices was the largest contributor to inflation in August 2023, so that inflation month to month was 0.03 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 117.36.

"The five commodities that contributed the largest to inflation in August 2023 were rice, filter kretek cigarettes, gold jewelry, sugar, and tomatoes," said Junior Experts Statistist at the Jember Central Statistics Agency, East Java, Meri Vita Zulfa Faizatin, quoted from Antara, Saturday, September 2.

The dominant commodities contributed to month to month inflation (mtm), namely rice by 0.1234 percent; filter kretek cigarettes by 0.0245 percent; sugar by 0.0158 percent; tomatoes by 0.0145 percent; and kretek cigarettes by 0.0141 percent.

Meanwhile, commodities that contributed to deflation in August 2023 included broiler meat, broiler eggs, shallots, salak, and cooking oil.

Then several commodities that contributed to the annual inflation (yoy) in August 2023 in Jember were gasoline, rice, pam drinking water tariffs, filter kretek cigarettes, garlic, and household fuel.

Meanwhile, annual deflation contributors include cayenne pepper, shallots, live chickens, red chilies, cooking oil, and perfume.

"Inflation in Jember has experienced a downward trend from a few months earlier, namely in June 2023 it was 0.14 percent; then it decreased in July 2023 to 0.11 percent; and in August it fell to 0.03 percent," he said.

Of the eight IHK cities in East Java, all experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sumenep Regency at 0.16 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Madiun City at 0.02 percent; while East Java Province experienced inflation at 0.11 percent.

Meanwhile, the price of rice in a number of traditional markets in Jember ranges from Rp12,500 per kilogram for medium rice, while premium rice reaches Rp14,500 per kilogram.
