Bareskrim Polri Rejects Suspension Of Detention Of Panji Gumilang

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police rejected the request for a suspension of detention submitted by the Panji Gumilang camp. Thus, the leader of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) must still be in a detention cell.

"It is true, that it is the right of the suspect to apply for a suspension. However, investigators with various considerations that we conveyed yesterday we will continue to carry out detentions," said Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro to reporters, Friday, August 4.

According to Djuhandani, there are several reasons why the investigative team detained Panji Gumilang. First, the leader of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School is considered uncooperative in the examination process.

Meanwhile, Panji's uncooperative attitude in the examination process was when he did not attend the invitation to the examination on July 27.

At that time, Panji Gumilang reasoned that he had a fever. A day later, his legal team showed a doctor's certificate regarding the health condition of the head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School.

However, investigators doubted his validity. In fact, the Panji Gumilang camp refused to submit the doctor's letter.

In addition, investigators also have subjective reasons in detaining Panji Gumilang, such as eliminating evidence and repeating his actions.

"The letter (of application) was not rejected, we are still doing it according to the investigator's belief (to detain)," said Djuhandani.

Previously, it was reported that the Panji Gumilang camp submitted a request for a suspension of detention to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police. The reason is that the age of the leader of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School is old.

After Panji is said to have entered the seventh head. Thus, investigators are expected to consider humanity and grant the request for a suspension.

Moreover, with the age of 77 years, Hendra claimed that his client would not be able to do things that were feared by investigators, such as eliminating evidence and so on.

"The age has been solved at 77 so it is impossible for someone in the capacity of an educator and of course they can do things that are more than what is suspected or what is suspected," said Panji Gumilang's attorney, Hendra Effendy.
