Escaped The Death Penalty, Defendant In The Case Of 26 Kg Of Shabu Sentenced To Life In Prison At The Medan District Court

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, Tuesday sentenced the defendant Andi Pratama, Zulkarnain (late), Muhammad Jumalis (late) for life in the case of distributing 26 kilograms of methamphetamine.

"Imposing the three defendants with a life sentence," said Chief Judge Zufida Hanum as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 25.

The panel of judges assured that the actions of the three defendants legally and guiltyly violated the subsidiary charges, Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics.

The three defendants made conspiracy without rights or against the law offering to sell, sell, buy, become intermediaries for the sale and purchase of narcotics class I more than five grams, namely 26 kilograms.

"The aggravating thing is that the three defendants did not participate in the government's program in eradicating drugs and damaging the nation's generation, while there were no mitigating factors," said Zufida.

After reading the verdict, the public prosecutor (JPU) and the defendant's legal adviser (PH) thought about it or accepted the decision.

The verdict of the panel of judges is lighter than that of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Medan Kejari Trian Adhitya Izmail on the demand for death.

Previously, on November 2, 2022, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) had received information that methamphetamine-type drug transactions would be brought to Medan City.

After that, BNN officers arrested the three defendants on Ringroad Street, Medan Sunggal District, Medan City with evidence totaling 26 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
