SOUTH LAMPUNG - Thousands of cattle in South Lampung Regency have contracted skinpox (LSD), said Head of the South Lampung Regency Livestock Service, Rini Ariasih.
"Reports that have been received are around 3,000 cattle who have LSD from about 150,000 populations," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 10.
He said the thousands of cattle were being handled by officers, and some were infected even though some had improved, but some were still in the process of being treated.
"Currently, officers are still undergoing treatment for sick cattle, and our officers continue to move to vaccinate and treat vaccination for healthy cattle," he said.
Of the approximately 3,000 cattle exposed to LSD, he said, their condition has entered a period of recovery.
"We have received medical and vaccine assistance from the central government, which we immediately distributed," he said.
Rini asked all breeders if there were sick cows to immediately report to the nearest animal health workers to prevent the spread of the disease.

"So that pro-active breeders are suspected of having LSD symptoms which begins with fever, then lumps appear on their skin. Immediately report to the nearest Puskeswan officer. Don't wait too long until the livestock don't want to eat or the lump has already appeared evenly throughout the body, because it will prolong the healing period," he said.
Cattle owners are asked to always maintain the health of cows and always clean the home environment.
"In order for farmers to maintain the cleanliness of the cage and its surroundings, and try to suppress the presence of flies and mosquitoes by diligently spraying them using insect spraying drugs and spraying disinfectants into clean cages," he added.
