JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno asked PT Aviasi Wisata Indonesia or InJourney to conduct a thorough study regarding the plan to eliminate the World Superbike (WSBK) motorcycle racing event at the Mandalika Circuit.

"So this needs to be studied more thoroughly because with more events in Mandalika, we hope that Mandalika will grow and develop," Sandiaga said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 19.

Regarding the losses suffered by the organizers, Sandiaga said this could be minimized by calculating it appropriately.

"Regarding the implementation, it is business to business (b to b), and if the implementation is carried out with full professionalism and proper calculations, because at WSBK, MotoGP in 2022 we will pay the government, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy who paid at that time," he added. Sandiaga also encouraged Indonesia not only to depend on international racing events, but also to be able to produce local racing events that can be held at the Mandalika circuit which was inaugurated in November 2021.

Previously, InJourney President Director Doni Oskaria in a working meeting with Commission IV of the DPR RI (14/6) said that his party would negotiate to eliminate WSBK because it is not attractive to investors to enter as sponsors.

With the elimination of the WSBK racing event, it is hoped that it will help reduce the company's burden so that the losses incurred do not swell every year compared if the event is maintained.

Meanwhile, the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara, Zulkieflimansyah, wants the management of the Mandalika Circuit to be taken by the provincial government (Pemprov). This is in response to InJourney's plan to abolish the event because it has to lose Rp100 billion.
