Tapirs Found By Inhil Residents In Weak Conditions Fall In Trench Waiting For Evacuation From BKSDA

Indragiri Hilir (Inhil) Police Chief AKBP Norhayat said a resident of Sungai Asam Reteh Village, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau, found an adult tapir entering a ditch. "Based on reports from residents, tapir fell into a muddy ditch on Saturday at 10.00 WIB, with a weak condition," Norhayat told reporters quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 18. According to Norhayat, the protected animals are now being secured by residents because they were found weak. The location of the tapir discovery is said to be far from the village and borders the Jambi Province area. "Residents who saw the tapir in the ditch then evacuated to the mainland besides that, residents also cleaned the black and white tapir body and then fed it. Because they realized that tapir was a protected animal," he said. Currently, the tapir condition has started to improve. To ensure the conditions of the tapir are safe, the police have coordinated with local village officials and the Riau KSDA Center in Pekanbaru.

"We have coordinated with the Pekanbaru BKSDA, while the residents have secured the tapir and guarded it by the RT," he said.
